Race for financial aid begins College-bound students advised to turn in FAFSA soon

Starting today, college-bound students can turn in their 2006-07 Free Application for Federal Student Aid — the main tool colleges and universities use to determine need-based financial aid.

And as tuition prices rise statewide and across the country, college officials say students should submit their forms as soon as possible to help ensure they get as much financial assistance as they can.

“What I typically tell students is that the most important thing is that you apply early,” said Brian Shirley, director of financial aid at The Evergreen State College. “Make sure you apply before your school's priority deadline for financial aid.”
